What Is the Basic Qaida Course and Why Is It Important?

Learning the Quran begins with a strong foundation — and that foundation is the Basic Qaida Course. This course is the very first step for children, beginners, and new Muslims who want to learn how to read the Quran with proper pronunciation (Tajweed).

The Qaida (also known as Noorani Qaida or Qaida Noorania) is a beginner-level Arabic learning book that introduces the Arabic alphabet, basic sounds, and rules of joining letters — all essential to build fluency in Quranic reading.

Just as a child must learn the alphabet before reading a book, every Quran learner must master the Arabic letters and their correct pronunciation before attempting to read the Quran. A Qaida course ensures students learn:

  • How to identify Arabic letters in their different forms

  • How to pronounce each letter clearly using Makharij (articulation points)

  • How to join letters and read simple Arabic words

  • Basic rules of Tajweed (Zabar, Zer, Pesh, Sukoon, etc.)

It also builds fluency, rhythm, and confidence, preparing students for the next step: reading the Quran smoothly.

What You Learn in a Basic Qaida Course:

  •

  • Recognition of individual Arabic letters (Huruf-e-Tahajji)

  • Understanding Harakaat – Fatha (Zabar), Kasrah (Zer), Dammah (Pesh)

  • Sukoon, Madd, Tanween, and Shaddah – rules for advanced pronunciation

  • Connecting letters to form words

  • Simple Quranic words and phrases practice

  • Correct mouth positions (Makharij) and sound production

  • Building discipline and habit in recitation
